Phew!

After a busy week last week, it was nice to have a 3-day weekend. So nice in fact that we didn’t do anything on Friday except lay around. It was just was we needed to get our energy back up. Saturday was a different story. Sharron and I decided to go out and do some hard-core shopping. This included a trip on the train to Tachikawa to see what we could see. The best part of the trip was good ol Patrick being the cause of much laughter from Sharron. We walked to the train station, and as we were getting close I was happily blowing bubbles with my bubble gum. A sudden gust of wind caught a truly magnificent bubble and it went soaring. A helpful, but unsuspecting, Japanese man was very nice and picked up my bubble and handed it back to me. We’re still not sure if he knew it was bubble gum or not. :-) After picking up a Christmas tree and groceries at around 6pm, we headed home to relax.

Sunday was much more exciting. Our plan was to hop a train to Motsumoto castle and take a tour of it. Little did we know how long it actually takes to get there (2.5 hours). We decided to amend our plan and try somewhere closer. Our destination became Mt Mitake and the shrine that is there. The mountain used to be worshipped as the god of agriculture, and the shrine is there to welcome all the pilgrims wishing to pray to this god. We had to take 2 trains, 1 bus, 1 cable car and 4 feet to reach the shrine, but a couple of rest stops later we’d made it. Pretty nice place really. It was especially nice to be out of the city for a few hours and up in the mountains. Lots of green and few buildings. I took some pictures and if I can get my home internet to cooperate I may add them to this post tonight.
