I was out sick on Monday. When I woke up, I had the irresistible urge to show myself my dinner. Sharron twisted my arm and in to the doctor I went. I thought I had the flu or something, but the doctor suspected Appendicitis. If Sharron wasn’t staying with me, he would have admitted me to the hospital for observation. Instead, he told me the list of symptoms to watch out for and told me to come back immediately if any of them appeared, or Tuesday morning if they didn’t. None of the symptoms he was looking for ever showed up. Instead, I starting producing large volumes of fluid from my nose and sneezing a lot. I drank some fluids and stayed in bed all day. When I went back to the doctors Tuesday morning, the nurse that saw me asked me when my last eye exam was. When I told them it had been since 2002 he made me get one right then. This morning I went and saw the optometrist. By Monday I’ll be wearing glasses. 20/40 in my left eye. 20/50 in my right eye. My eyesight isn’t bad enough to get me laser eye surgery so I’ll have to wait a few years for that. They don’t do contact lenses here, but he said I could go to any place in the states and get them, so I’ll be doing that over Christmas break. You can image my surprise at all this. Fun fun!

So, will you have to wear the military issue BC glasses, or do you at least get to pick out some decent frames?
Did the doctor ever say what was wrong with the rest of you?
They offer a small selection of frames that are not BCGs (Birth Control Glasses). I picked out a pair that didn’t make me look too rediculous. They require me to have 2 pairs of glasses to be worldwide deployable, and the recommended getting a set of BCGs to just put in a drawer somewhere, so I do own a pair. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
According to the doctors I had a simple viral infection. This was made manifest when I got a runny nose, etc.
Pat: “My stomach hurts”
Dr.: “We should get you in for an eye exam.”
Pat: “But… my stomach…”
Dr.: “Ha! See? All you needed was glasses!”
Dude, what the hell is going on over there? :)
When I ran across this joke today I immediately thought of you and your recent eyesight woes, so I couldn’t resist posting it here. Don’t let this happen to you.
A guy showed up at his favorite bar with new eyeglasses. His friends complimented him on how good they looked and he told them how much better he could see because everything looked bigger. After a few beers he said, “Gotta go to the toilet; be back in a minute.” When he came back, the front of his pants were all wet. “What happened to you?” his friends asked. “I don’t know,” he replied. “I got in there, pulled it out, and it looked too big to be mine, so I put it back.”
Yeah, I gotta say that story’s pretty random, guy. ;-) Maybe you should have thrown in a “after they said everything was just a viral blah-blah, they asked how long…”
You should post pics of glass-ed-Pat.
YAY!! I’m glad your journal works at home again! I’ve missed reading it (and the funny comments). :-)
Me too! It was terrible to not be able to view or post to it from home. Heck, now I can even upload pictures again! :-)
