About a week or two (or three) ago Tom sent me an email detailing a possible way to get accepted into this Captains school that I’ve been wanting to go to (very good for career). I finally managed to get off my duff and send an email to the appropriate parties on Friday. By Saturday, I had an email response from them saying that I was all signed up for the class. WTF? Really? I sent a reply back to confirm and to find out what other steps I needed to take and cautiously waited until Monday for a response before getting excited. I receieved a confirmation from them yesterday and was told whom to contact on base here. I gave that office a call and sure enough, I was indeed all signed up for the class. Party time. What was funny was that the office here on base was just as mystified as I am at how easy it was to get into that class. You see, normally each wing is given a certain number of slots per year. We got 8 here this year. I’m pretty sure I didn’t even come close to getting one of them. So to be able to go to this class is a pretty big deal and I think Tom just helped me work the system. Thanks Tom! :-)
Class start date: 24 July Class location: Montgomery, AL
BTW, Sharron’s journal: http://sharron.toddsville.com/
As hoped, Sharron arrived at 1100 on Friday morning. I had arranged to have the afternoon off, so we headed home, had something to eat and promptly fell asleep. She had been traveling for something like 36 hours, and I had just finished up a week long military exercise (I was getting up at 0300 everyday). I had also arranged to take both Monday and Tuesday off work so that we could do some work around the house, do some shopping, and just catch up. It was pretty nice. We had some good down time where we just veged and watched TV, and we also got off our duffs and got some things accomplished. On Monday, we headed to the base and ordered a chest of drawers and a dresser for Sharron. We didn’t even have to pay to have them delivered. The base offers a free furniture “rental” service to everyone, so we just checked those items out from them. We didn’t get away completely free though as we headed over to the furniture store. We picked up a wheeled kitched cart (think moveable island), a futon frame (mattress is ordered) and a book shelf. We then headed to the BX and bought a countertop oven and a toaster over. I didn’t know there was a difference, but now we have them both anyway. :-)
The big TV event this weekend has been Alias. We started watching the first season. Sharron had been telling me how good it is, so I got her the first season for Christmas so we could watch it together. Some of it is only ok, but man, when that central plot arc gets going, it really gets going. I’ve been enjoying it immensely. :-)
The biggest event of the weekend happened yesterday when we went to the post office. Jared Jewelers FINALLY got my ring to me. It’s only taken them 5 weeks, but I am finally wearing my wedding ring. I will be sure to post a picture of it sometime soon.
Our home internet works great, but for some reason I can’t access www.toddsville.com from there. It is the only site that I’ve found with that problem. What are the odds?
