More New Furniture and a Bad Back

This past weekend the Yokota Officers Spouse’s Club held their spring Asian Bazaar.  Sharron had volunteered to work at the vendor’s lounge and ensure they were well taken care of.  I came out on Saturday and we did a little shopping, but only spent about $100.  I thought we’d done pretty good.  :-)

Sunday, Sharron had asked me to show up at the end of the bazaar and help with the tear down.  Since a lot of the wing leadership were participating, it sounded like a good idea.  She then called me back a little while later and asked if I could come early to look at the furniture she wanted.  I transferred some money into our checking account just in case.  Our plan was to establish a relationship with a vendor we liked and then buy the furniture we wanted either at the fall bazaar, or at next years spring bazaar.  We spoke to the vendor and he told us he’d sell both pieces for half their sticker price for a total of $1400.  Sharron tells him that we’ll instead be willing to pay $1200.  We’d already agreed that $1300 was acceptable, but the vendor says sure.  Sold!  So we now own two new pieces of asian furniture.  A Step Tansu and a Bar.  These links aren’t to the exact pieces we bought, but are just to illustrate what exactly it is that we got.  To store them until we move on base, our friend Tiffany offered up her house.  It’s conveniently across the street from where we’ll be living.  Thanks Tiffany!

After coordinating all of the transportation of our new furniture, it was time to tear down the bazaar.  I was given a pair of work gloves and told to find something to do.  :-)  I first started with disassembling the plywood tables.  Me and several other guys were working on this all around the hangar.  I was able to do that for at least an hour.  After we’d disassembled most of them, I switched to carrying rugs out of the hanger to the vendor’s truck.  After the rugs, I did boxes.  The first two tasks were awesome and I had a lot of fun, but the boxes were back breaking and not fun.  We did finally move all of them though.  My last task was moving furniture.  Some of it was nice and light and easy to move, but some was not.  I think we finished up with most everything around 3 hours after we’d started.  No free pizza and beer, but Sharron and I stopped at our favorite restaurant on the way home.  It’s the Sushi place.  :-)
