I really like my job. I like it so much that I’m really trying to do well. I’ve been trying to learn as much about what my project is and what insurance is all about. The problem is that I really don’t know what each of the players associated with my project do. I’ve been talking to everybody to try and find out more about what they do. Today though, my boss Lisa told me that I’d gone too far up the chain. Whoops. I guess I was supposed to talk to her before going that high up. The problem is, that until she told me it was too high up the chain, I had no idea. I feel like a big dumb ass, but at the same time I kinda feel that it wasn’t really my fault, I’m just trying to learn as much as I can and do a good job.
Monthly Archive for January, 2008
Yesterday Sharron’s household goods arrived. She’d had all of her stuff that didn’t fit into 2 suitcases in storage since October 2005. The item we’ve been looking forward to the most is her
Commuting to Hartford from where we live in Simsbury isn’t very hard. However, there’s no space in the company parking lot and the wait list is 10 years long! There are other parking options, but there are wait lists for those too, and they’re not cheap. The best way to get here we’ve found is for Sharron to drive me (until we get a 2nd car) to the park and ride and for me to take the bus. It’s only about a 30 minute bus ride and it’s actually cheaper than driving, so I don’t mind it. I’ve been checking my email and surfing the web a bit (all on my cell phone of course) but mostly I’ve just been reading. It really much nicer than driving myself to work as I don’t have to concentrate if I don’t want to. True, I used to really enjoy listening to the radio or CD’s on the way in, but hey, that’s why we have portable radios and iPods right? :-)
Sharron and I have been keeping ourselves VERY busy around the house. So much so that we really haven’t gotten out into the area much to explore. We have good reasoning though: The more we get done before the furniture arrives, the easier it is to accomplish. Just to give you an idea, here is a pretty good list of what we’ve accomplished:
To the house we have done the following:
Painted:
Bedroom and both bedroom closets
Loft
Living/dining room
Kitchen
Laundry room
Entry and entry hallway
Upstairs staircase
The hallway from the kitchen to the garage
We had new appliances installed. We now have a brand new washer and dryer, dish washer, microwave and range.
We had new carpet installed in the master bedroom as that was the only room in the house that didn’t get new carpet from the old owners.
We had a new furnace installed. The old one had too much wrong with it so they recommended getting the whole thing replaced.
We’ve replaced 3 faucets: Master bath, main floor 1/2 bath and kitchen.
We’ve also replaced all of the bath apparatus in the master bath except for the water control. Will need a plumber to do that part.
I added a new shower head to the guest bath. One with a hair washing apparatus so we can use that bath to wash Parker. We will replace the rest as we have the $$.
The guest bath had a glass door instead of a shower curtain, so we removed the door and replaced it with a shower curtain. Looks MUCH better now.
We’ve contracted a tiling company to replace all the kitchen/hallway/office/laundry flooring with tile. That should be installed around the 1st of February.
We’ve contracted a roofer to install a new roof and gutters, but I’m not sure when that will happen.
It seems there is lots more to do, but some will have to wait for $$. Others just have to wait for time. Sharron’s been doing work around the house as her back allows. Some days it’s good, some days it’s not. We do a lot more after I get home in the evenings and on the weekends.
Last night we took down the track lighting in the dining room and replaced it with a more normal ceiling light. Pretty easy, but we encountered a few speed bumps. It really looks much better in there now even if because of the track lighting the box isn’t in the center of the room.
It’s really starting to feel like a home finally and not just some house we bought. I can’t wait to get some of our stuff as that will really make it feel like ours.
I wrote this on my cell phone last night on the way home from work and finished it this morning on the way in.
So, I’m currently on the bus on the way home from my second day of work. No internet at home yet, or I would have posted sooner. Sharron and I have been spending most of our time at our new house doing some painting, plumbing and dealing with repair men/install men. The house is coming along fine and after getting new carpet installed in the master bedroom yesterday we were able to move back into it last night. Of course, we don’t have any furniture yet…
We have spent very little time at the corporate apartment that was made available to us, hence the limited internet access. I’m writing this entry from my cell phone while I’;m on the bus on my ride in to work. I started work on monday at Travelers. It’s been pretty weird as i haven’t really been to work seriously since October 31st!
Not sure what else to post about at the moment, but I’m sure I’ll post more after we get internet at the house on Friday. Back to trying to figure out what sites have a mobile version…
