Housework

When we had a handyman at our house to install our new appliances, he told us that at any given time, every house has 19 planned or ongoing projects.  We’re nearing our 2 month anniversary of being in our house, and let me tell you, that’s exactly correct, if not a little low for us.  Both Sharron and I have noticed that although we love working on the house, it seems like we’re almost trapped there and that we don’t do anything else.  Even if we just want to relax and take it easy for awhile, it’s hard to do because all of the projects are sitting there…watching you.  It’s creepy.

Friday Simsbury received around a foot of snow.  It was awesome, crazy and caused us to go to Sears…and buy a snow blower.  Saturday, we set it up and put it to work in the driveway.  Wow, it’s crazy fun to operate.  I’m sure I’ll grow tired of it, but hey, when it’s new, even hard work can be fun right?  The really hard part was trying to clear some of the ice out of our driveway.  It had snowed earlier that week, and then rained the next day causing all of the snow to melt…sorta.  Over night, said melted snow turned into a nice sheet of ice.  I broke up a lot of us, but there are still some large sections lying in wait to get us.  Sharron has fallen 3 times, to my once.  You can tell how big of a project it was from the fact that it took me ALL DAY to clear the driveway.  Crazy!

While I was hard at work outside, our tile installer was hard at work inside grouting the tile in the kitchen.  He was able to get all of the tile grouted and is now complete with that phase.  We need to seal the grout and have transitions installed between rooms, but otherwise it’s complete.  Wow, it looks SO much better than the crappy old linoleum.  A few doors will have to be shaved to work, but that will hopefully just give us an excuse to purchase a circular saw.  :-)

Yesterday, we finished painting the basement hallway and the ceiling in the basement bathroom.  Our basement storage room was finally finished on Saturday (the baseboards were reinstalled) so we moved all of my comic book boxes and toy boxes in to there to get them out of the game room (also in basement).  Then, we hung out with friends for the rest of the day.  That was a much needed vacation for us.  We even went out for dinner (and ate it out, not got take out (Wow, that’s bad English I think)).

Finally, I’ve been researching a new home stereo system.  Sharron and I have agreed that my speakers are just too large to look right in our living room so we need smaller speakers.  My stereo is about 12 years old, so I decided to start looking in to a Home Theater In a Box (HTIB) solution.  Consumer Reports and many audio sites have recommended the Onkyo HT-SR800 and I’m starting to lean in that direction.  Any thoughts from anybody?
